Who We Are

We are Petit Casimir Memorial School, proudly serving the children and families of the Northlands Denesuline First Nation in Lac Brochet, Manitoba.

Our school is a place where academic learning, the Dene language, and our cultural traditions come together to guide and inspire our students.

We provide education from Kindergarten through Grade 12, following the Manitoba provincial curriculum while ensuring the Dene language is at the heart of what we do. Each morning, we begin our day with a Dene prayer led over the intercom, setting a tone of respect and cultural pride. Our youngest students learn through songs and repetition, while older students develop skills in both Roman orthography and Dene syllabics.

Our classrooms and hallways are alive with the Dene language-filled with words, storytelling prompts, games, and visual displays that keep our language present in every corner. We also integrate land-based learning, where students gain traditional skills and connect to the environment through seasonal activities.

We are more than a school-we are a hub for community gatherings, cultural celebrations, and events that bring people together. We host Dene Hand Games (Daùdzi) tournaments, feasts, and programs that showcase the talents, achievements, and cultural pride of our students.

We prepare our learners for success beyond our community, while ensuring they carry forward the language, traditions, and values of the Northlands Denesuline First Nation. We are proud to be a place where education and cultural identity walk side by side.

Petit Casimir Memorial School is more than a building-it is the heart of our community's education system. We offer a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment where every student is known, valued, and supported. Our school houses about 230 students in a well-maintained facility that includes elementary and high school classrooms. On the high school side, there's a science lab, computer lab, industrial arts workshops, a home economics room, Dene language room and more.

  • Our classrooms are equipped for hands-on, interactive learning
  • We provide spaces for cultural programming, language instruction, and community events
  • Our school is a gathering place for celebrations, feasts, and seasonal activities that bring together students, families, and Elders
